Featured Custom Home Project
This secluded spot in rural lexington sits close to a golf course and a pond with a dike as the driveway. The homeowner is a major car guy who needed a unique custom garage to accommodate four cars and a heavy-duty car lift and wanted a “mountain retreat” feel for the home.
We covered the outside of this home with James Hardie Siding and shakes with natural slate stone on the front steps and porch, organized in a random pattern with a GAF HD Timberline lifetime architectural shingle roof.
The owner chose cut slate tile for a more refined and polished look on the back porch. Both porch ceilings are tongue and groove knotty pine that matches the back patio walls, which are also knotty pine siding. The natural wood and stone give the home a strong “mountain retreat” vibe.
The dark bronze aluminum screen porch system continues the color scheme of dark brown, to keep with the natural look of the materials used in the build. And the Trex Enhance decking on the back deck leads to a spacious custom stamped concrete pad with a sunken fire pit.
Landscaping and landscape lighting surround the patio area with natural stones originally from the property.
A dike (which supports the driveway) has a rip rap stone border along the pond and we created a waterfall made of natural stone as the focal point.
We built a vaulted ceiling to make room for the car lift to operate, which also provides space for a ceiling-mounted heat/air unit. Because the car lift creates extra stress on the concrete floor, we reinforced the concrete in the garage then finished the floor with a beautiful garage epoxy that looks professional and is easy-to-clean.
We installed multiple electric drops specifically for the client’s compressors and tools and created a spacious computer station/mechanics office for diagnostics. The insulated custom faux stain garage doors were specifically designed to open above the car lift.
Stained shaker maple custom cabinets and trim grace the great room with prefinished hardwood floors Tuscan Touch and Hickory Natural throughout the home. The gunmetal appliances complement the natural wood in the cabinets and flooring and a white porcelain farmhouse sink can handle a busy family.
A sunny eat-in breakfast area overlooks the woods in the rear of the property, providing a secluded area for the family to eat while enjoying nature.
A Western Door stacking slider aluminum-clad unit with a separated transom allows natural light to flood the room, adding volume to the space. The main living area ceiling heights reach a luxurious 12 ft height stepping down to 9 ft in other areas.
The piano enjoys its own glorious nook surrounded by architectural columns and creating its own concert area by the entryway.
The master bathroom has a long dual vanity showcasing stained wood cabinets with black countertops, adding to the rustic luxury feel of the entire interior of the home.
And the oversized, doorless shower boasts a zero-threshold entry and convenient bath hooks in the entryway. An oblique window provides natural light and owners can control the custom rain showerhead and wall-mounted showerhead from the shower entry area. The master closet has a built-in dresser for convenient storage and a transom window to allow the light in but maintain privacy.
